HEALTH officials in the UK are on alert today after a deadly outbreak of swine influenza.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is closely monitoring the outbreak of cases in Mexico which have so far claimed the live of 80 people.

The victims died of pneumonia after contracting a flu-like virus and countries are now being warned to be on the lookout for unusual flu cases.

Many others, including children in a New York school have fallen ill in the US and Mexico.

In the UK, a man was in hospital with "flu-like symptoms" after arriving at Heathrow on a flight from Mexico City.

The HPA said the outbreak was unusual and warranted further investigation and vigilance by other countries.
