UK: Wayne Rooney’s dad and Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings have been arrested by Merseyside Police, it has emerged.
The Scottish Football Association confirmed Jennings’s arrest in a statement which attributes the information to the Gambling Commission. This follows enquiries in relation to alleged betting irregularities at a Scottish Premier League match between Motherwell and Hearts last December.
Wayne Rooney senior, 48, was detained at his home in the West Derby area of Liverpool.
The arrests were carried out by Merseyside Police in a joint operation with the Gambling Commission.
The investigation relates to a match between Motherwell and Hearts on December 14 last year, Merseyside Police said.
