UK: Woman arrested over death of girl

A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a four-year-old girl whose body was found in the grounds of a hospital.

The discovery was made after a woman and a child were reported missing at around 10pm on Tuesday night in Inverness, prompting a major police search.

The youngster was found dead shortly after 3am on Wednesday at the rear of Raigmore Hospital in the Highland city.

Northern Constabulary confirmed a 43-year-old woman had been arrested and said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.

The force had earlier appealed for anyone who saw a woman walking with a small girl near the hospital, between 7pm on Tuesday and the early hours of Wednesday morning, to get in touch.

Around 10 forensics officers scoured the area, including nearby bins and bushes.

The area was cordoned off with yellow police tape.
