The Ipswich Vision features community leaders in the town coming together for a united drive to improve the town, and helps inform developments and planning.

During the Spring semester, second year students from the Ipswich Waterfront-based University of Suffolk’s graphic design and graphic illustration courses came up with a fresh design concept for the logo.

Crafting their concepts over 10 weeks, the final designs were presented to the Ipswich Vision board during an exhibition just before the summer break, with the Team Univers design being chosen.

Meeting the students last week, Ipswich Borough Council leader and Ipswich Vision deputy chairman David Ellesmere said: “There’s a lot going on under the Ipswich Vision project and this new look will make it much easier for people to recognise what’s being done.

“It has been a great opportunity for the students to work on a real commission and we’ve been very impressed by all the designs they presented.”

The winning design was based on key Vision elements going on in the town.

The shape of the logo is based on the layout of the Waterfront, with the triangle representing the key Vision projects of the university, Cornhill and rail station.

The Suffolk pink and light blue colours were inspired by a series of photographs students took around town.

Nigel Ball, course leader for graphic design at the University of Suffolk, said: “Working with Ipswich Vision has been a great experience for students, giving them a real-world, client-facing experience that has also helped them to consider how their design decisions sit within broader society.

“The winning team have designed an exciting, dramatic and contemporary identity that is equally sympathetic to Suffolk’s history—this is not an easy thing to pull off.”

Among some of the Vision’s key partners are the local authorities, Ipswich Central, MP Sandy Martin, university, Chamber of Commerce and New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.
