A critically-acclaimed documentary about pregnancy and childbirth is being screened in Ipswich tomorrow.
Microbirth will be shown at the University of Suffolk and there will be a chance to take part in a Q&A with producer and director, Toni Harman, from Brighton-based Alto Films.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the event, which has been organised in partnership with Suffolk-based organisation The Birth Nest to mark International Day of the Midwife.
Midwifery lecturer at the university, Jo Butler, said: “This is a unique opportunity to share something quite special with our local community, bringing together midwives, educators, students, local birth workers and women.”
The event, which starts at 4pm, is free with donations being accepted for One World Birth.
Toni said: “Our documentary offers a fresh new look at childbirth by shining a light on the microscopic events happening during a natural birth and breastfeeding. As the latest science is revealing, these microscopic events help train the baby’s immune system. If anything interferes with these natural biological processes, this could have ramifications for a child’s lifelong health.”
International Day of the Midwife was launched 14 years ago to highlight the work of midwives.
