FOR one Ipswich school girl turning 13 really has turned out to be unlucky for some.

Sherrell >>> Lee was supposed to be celebrating her 13th birthday on October 13th with a big bash and a disco to dance the night away.

However unlucky 13 struck at the worst possible time and left her without a venue or a disco.

Sharon Burn, Sherrell's mum, of Whitton Church Lane, was left to frantically phone round and try to make her daughter's birthday go with a bang.

"I couldn't believe it … I was let down in every way.

"First I went to confirm the booking with the Flying Horse pub and when I got there the place was closed and the telephone number had been cut off. This means I have lost the £25 deposit I paid to secure the night."

The Evening Star tried to contact The Flying Horse but was unable to get a response.

Mrs Burn is a single mother on benefits and began saving for her daughter's birthday in March.

"I was told the landlady and landlord had gone. To top it off I then phoned the man doing the disco and he told me he had double booked. Luckily I had paid no money for this but even so I was left with little time to organise something. Sherrell was really looking forward to it and was devastated … I knew I couldn't let her down."

Mrs Burn managed to get someone else to do the disco and luckily the Whitton Sports Centre is holding the party tomorrow. It has left Sherrell and her mum very upset and glad that she will only ever be 13 once.

"The Whitton Sports Centre do not normally hold parties on Saturday nights but they have made an exception which I am very grateful for. But it is very expensive and I still have to find £120 for the hire of the hall. I am just glad I can give Sherrell a party she will remember," she said.
