TWO police officers were treated by paramedics after their unmarked vehicle hit a deer on a main road near Thetford.

The officers were driving along the A11 at around 10.20pm yesterday when a large stag ran out in front of the silver Mondeo near the roundabout with the A1075.

The collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle.

A spokesman for Norfolk police said the car was not responding to an emergency call at the time and had not been travelling above the speed limit.

He did not know what happened to the deer.

The officers were treated for shock at the scene and did not need to go to hospital.
