WHEN the winners of the Evening Star/AXA People Awards are announced, one company in particular will be watching with pride.

Ipswich-based business The Windscreen Company was so impressed by the decision to hold the People Awards and recognise the unsung heroes of our community that workers there decided they wanted to get involved.

The company is now sponsoring the Bravery Award – a decision made to show their approval of the awards scheme and it's place within the community.

After just five years on the road, The Windscreen Company has branched out from it's headquarters in Turret Lane, Ipswich to have bases in Bury St Edmunds and Norwich and mobile units in Colchester, Chelmsford and London.

They have a fleet of vans offering a 24-hour windscreen repair service to both private and business customers.

But despite spreading their business around East Anglia and into London, the company is dedicated to it's Ipswich roots and jumped at the opportunity to sponsor a People Award category.

"It is a local scheme and we are a local company and we would like to be a part of it," said general manager Terry Fenwick.

"The awards are a very good thing and it is good for local people."

Staff at the business have decided to make cancer charities and fundraising events for Ipswich cancer sufferers the focus of their charitable giving and have chosen the Bravery Award to reflect this.

"The bravery award stood out to me," said Mr Fenwick.

"They are all good categories but this one got our attention, it was the one that stood out to us because we know there will be someone out there who has done something very brave."

The Windscreen Company has chosen to sponsor the Bravery Award and the winner will be presented with their award by Terry Fenwick.

The winner will be someone who our judges feel best fits the category.

The Bravery Award

Do you know someone who has astonished everyone with their bravery or fought through adversity and come up trumps? This could be a child who has faced their own problems head on or who has shown maturity beyond their years helping others or it could be a colleague or friend who has impressed you with their determination when things have got tough.

NOMINATIONS for the Evening Star/AXA People Awards have now closed and our judges are going to be faced with the difficult task of choosing winners.

We have had a great response from readers and the high number of nominations has shown just how much hard work and dedication to others is taking place in our county every day.

The nominations we have received range from people whose inspirational leadership or teaching has helped change another's life for the better to people who spend every day doing the small things that make a big difference.

Hundreds of people are putting themselves out for the sake of others every day and the response we have received the awards scheme demonstrates just what a positive impact they have.

Even though nominations have now closed, we will still be bringing you news of the people who have been nominated from now until the People Awards ceremony on July 14.
