The A12 east of Ipswich was shut for several hours on Saturday after a diesel spill during the morning.
Traffic between Brightwell and Foxhall was diverted along alternative routes as county council teams were called to clear the road.
It re-opened mid-afternoon. A police spokesman said because the incident had happened at the weekend, the impact on traffic was not as great as sometimes – and delays had not been too serious.
