A four-vehicle crash on the A14 close to the Orwell Bridge caused delays for morning rush-hour commuters today.

One man is in hospital with neck injuries not thought to be life-threatening after three cars and a van were involved in a collision between the Shell garage and the Orwell Bridge at around 7.45am today.

It prompted heavy congestion for motorists eastbound and westbound on the A14 between the Copdock and Nacton interchanges throughout the morning rush hour.

The vehicles were recovered and the road reopened at 9.35am, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics treated a man in his 40s for neck injuries at the scene.

β€œHe was placed on a spinal board and taken to Ipswich Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening,” he said.

The accident involved a Vauxhall Vivaro van, a Fiat Panda, a Renault Scenic and a Hyundai i20.
