Train services between Ipswich and Cambridge were disrupted this morning after lightning damaged the signalling system in a village near Newmarket.

All lines were blocked for around five hours after lightning damaged the signalling system at Dullingham in east Cambridgeshire overnight, causing delays and cancellations to services in both directions, Abellio Greater Anglia (AGA) said.

The line reopened at around 10am after Network Rail engineers arrived at the scene to carry out repair work.

Disruption lasted until around 11am.

An AGA spokesman apologised for the disruption caused to services.
