A broken down lorry caused a seven-mile tailback on the A14 near Ipswich this morning.

The lorry was forced to stop in the inside lane of the A14 westbound half a mile before the Needham Market turn-off (junction 51) at 5.50am, police said.

Queuing traffic initially stretched back to the Claydon turn-off (junction 52) and as far back as Ipswich – around seven miles – at the peak of the disruption at around 8am.

The lorry was recovered and removed from the dual carriageway at 8.10am, police said.
