Residents and workers near Dickens Road in Ipswich have raised concerns after a man was stabbed.

Officers were called by the ambulance service to the junction of Dickens Road and Copperfield Road at around 6.30pm on Wednesday to reports that a 29-year-old man had suffered multiple stab wounds to the body.

The offender, described as a man of mixed race, then stole the victim’s pink and purple bicycle and made off towards Hadleigh Road.

It is believed the offender is known to the victim.

But following the incident, residents in the area have spoken of their worries.

Diane Colton from nearby Dombey Road, said: “I don’t like the thought of it being on my doorstep. There’s always a little bit of trouble but this is a more serious thing.

“It’s worrying that will stop me walking late at night.”

David Jones from Copperfield Road, added: “It’s not what you would call a great place but I have never known anything of this sort to happen here before. I hope it doesn’t happen again because you never know where you are safe walking.”

Rosie Morrison, also from Copperfield Road, said: “I have been here about 12 years and there is always a bit of a reputation, but I didn’t expect it to be that bad.”

The victim has been taken to hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening, a police spokesman said.

A police helicopter was deployed to search the area and police are carrying out enquiries to find the offender.

People who witnessed the incident or have information are asked to call police on 101.
