A man and a woman arrested after a man was attacked and seriously injured in broad daylight in Ipswich have been bailed.

Police were called to Rose Lane at the junction with St Peters Street after a member of the public reported the assault.

The ambulance service was also called to treat the man who was seen lying in the middle of the road.

A police spokesman said the victim was a man, whose age is not yet known, and he had sustained “lacerations to the head”.

They added he was “described as losing quite a lot of blood” having been struck in the head with an object.

Officers carried out a search of the area and a man, aged 31, and a woman, aged 23, were arrested.

The man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and the woman on suspicion of causing GBH with intent.

Both are from the Stowmarket area and have now been bailed to return to police on August 10.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust said: “We were called to an incident in Ipswich at 3.20pm.

“An ambulance attended and treated a man with serious injuries who was unconscious and breathing.

“He was taken to hospital for further care.”
