CARERS will have a chance to help shape services at Ipswich Hospital now that a new group has been set up.

The discussion group includes carers who look after a relative, friend, partner or child who cannot manage without help because of illness, age, or a disability.

In East Suffolk, there are 49,242 carers within the area of the hospital which serves 433,697 patients.

The Carers' User Group is part of a range of user groups at the hospital, covering areas like clinical services and ethnic, cultural and religious issues, overseen by Julie Stokes patient services coordinator.

The group meets once every two months, and Julie added that the aim is to build stronger partnerships with carers so the hospital can plan and deliver services which put patients and carers first.
