RAIL commuters were tonight facing misery after an unexploded bomb caused delays of up to 30 minutes.
One railways, which operates services to East Anglia from London Liverpool Street, announced on their website a number of services disrupted due to a “Line problem between London Liverpool Street and Stratford.”
Jonathan Denby, spokesman for One, said: “At 2pm this afternoon bomb disposal units set up a 200 metre exclusion zone around the device.
“One of our tracks was within the zone and we were unable to use the track. Because of the volume of trains between 5.30pm and 7pm there were some unavoidable delays of about 20 to 25 minutes. The line reopened at 6.30pm and the service is now running normally.”
A spokeswoman for the metropolitan Police said the 500lb world war two bomb had been found in the Bethnal Green area on Monday afternoon by workmen.
