Vehicles carrying dangerous goods through the Port of Felixstowe were targeted in a joint police, Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency and Health & Safety Executive operation on Friday.

Officers checked a total of 31 vehicles between 8am and 2pm and inspected them to ensure they complied with a range of legislation.

One was taken off the road, while another was seized as the vehicle was uninsured.

Two were given delayed prohibition notices, giving them time to fix faults, and a further six were given advisory notices.

One driver had exceeded the number of hours permitted to drive, while another vehicle had faulty lights.

No offences were found by HM Revenue and Customs officers who checked all of the vehicles.

Sgt Julian Ditcham from Suffolk Constabulary, who ran the operation of the site, said: “We carry out these regular checks to make our roads safer and, as demonstrated by the number of offences found, there is a need to continue them to deal with drivers and vehicles that are potentially dangerous to other road users.

“Working with partner agencies means we can tackle a range of issues and there will be more days in future in different locations around the county.”
