AN AMBULANCE is off the road today after it crashed into railings at a busy town junction while on an emergency call.

The rapid response car was heading along Handford Road when it was involved in the smash near to the junction of Yarmouth Road which sent it ploughing into the pedestrian barrier.

Motorists slowed down to look at the dramatic scene as the emergency vehicle had mounted the pavement in the crash at around 9.50am yesterday.

It was attending an emergency medical job when it collided with a Renault Laguna coming from Yarmouth Road.

No one was injured during the incident.

The pedestrian barrier next to the traffic lights, opposite the BMW garage, has been damaged and Ipswich Borough Council has been informed to ensure it is repaired.

A police officer remained at the scene until a recovery vehicle arrived to take away the rapid response car. The road was not blocked.

The female driver of the Renault Laguna did not wish to comment about the incident but added she was fine.
