Talent scouts from the hit ITV1 show stopped by the town as part of a regional tour that’s already visited the likes of Bury St Edmunds, Norwich, Peterborough and King’s Lynn with Cambridge next.

Acts nervously waited in the foyer before being called to the Ipswich Star Circle Lounge to perform.

First was Connie Lamb, 15, from Woodbridge, who sang three songs including I’m Here from the musical The Color Purple.

“I’ve auditioned four times before, up and down to London, last year at The Kingfisher but I’ve never got any further. You still get nervous every time,” said the singer, who has an anxious wait until February to see if she’s made it to judges auditions. You can watch her sing here.

Singer Lauren Michelle, performing James Bays’ Let It Go, had never auditioned before.

“Why not,” said the 26-year-old from Ipswich. “I’m very nervous. I’m last but it’s good. I didn’t want to be first.”

Chelsea Bennett, choreographer of dance act Empire 19, see a sneak peek of their routine here, was excited and nervous for her seven-strong street dance troupe; missing a member because of injury. She hoped they could repeat their Ipswich Has Got Talent success.

“We got to the final but it’s our first time for Britain’s Got Talent. The youngster is 13, the eldest 22. We really focus on the fact they’re a group of girls and have fun.”

The auditions were open to any sort of performer from magicians, comedians and drag acts to singers, acrobats and animals.

Amelia Brown, executive producer, said: “We’ve had some amazing winners over the last 10 series, from this year’s champion Richard Jones, who was the first magician to ever win the show, right through to Paul Potts, Diversity and Collabro. We can’t wait to see what talent Ipswich has to offer.”
