A 100-year-old woman who visited her childhood home she was born and grew up in has described the “unbelievable” experience.
Salvation Army stalwart Lilian Day went back to her old family home in Maidstone Road, Felixstowe yesterday afternoon.
Mrs Day, who now lives in Woodfield Court Residential Care Home in Temple Road, Stowmarket, was the first resident to add her wish to a new ‘wish tree’ at the care home, asking to tour her childhood home. The visit was happily agreed by the family living there now.
Mrs Day, who lived at the house for 16 years, said: “I wanted to go back because I have so many memories of a happy childhood there. There were cornfields opposite I used to play in and watch the trains go by.
“It was quite strange walking back in. The house is the same in many ways. It brought back many happy memories. It was marvellous; unbelievable.”
