She took to the stage in the BBC1 talent show to perform Britney Spears’ track ...Baby One More Time in a battle against the double-act Gemyni on Saturday night.

Aussie superstar Kylie Minogue – Jade’s mentor – chose to take her through to the next round of the competition.

Jade, 21, from Rushmere, said after she was picked: “Thank you so much. I will not let you down, I promise – I need a hug!”

Afterwards she said: “Wow, that was so surreal.”

Jade, who worked as a waitress before taking part in the show, watched the programme surrounded by friends and family in The Spread Eagle pub in town before performing a set.

Earlier on Saturday she signed autographs outside Debenhams in Ipswich before performing to a large crowd in the sunshine at Christchurch Park.

The singer played her own songs and covers of the likes of The Zutons and Lorde in front of around 150 people in front of the park’s historic mansion.

She thanked the crowd for coming: “It means the absolute world to me, thank you and please carry on supporting me.

“I hope you lot will be voting for me when I get in to the live finals. I love each and everyone of you for coming.

I’m trying to win a big competition and I need as much support as possible.”

Lucie Ward, 32, from the Bramford Road area, brought her stepdaughter Daisy, four, and her niece Olivia Ward, 11, to see Jade perform.

“I think she’s amazing, her voice is brilliant,” she said.

“I’ve been watching The Voice and thought I would come down here and give her our support as she’s local and talented.”
