Tipped as a favourite for the title, the 25-year-old made it through to the next round after Sunday night's results show.
But way before his X Factor adventure, the cheeky chap was captured in this mobile phone footage performing karaoke in his local pub.
Even back then it seems his star quality was obvious, as he belted out Justin Timberlake's hit Like I Love You and Angel by Shaggy, a former number one single.
It would have put him in good stead for Saturday's first live show, when he covered Robbie Williams pop ballad She's the One after meeting the music superstar - who said he'd love to have Olly as a friend.
Girl group Kandy Rain became the first act to be booted out of the competition on Sunday, losing out in the public vote to singer Rachel Adedeji.
