VOTERS in Ipswich were today going to the polls for the most important local elections in the town for 23 years.But the importance of the vote wasn't able to persuade people to vote early – polling stations were seeing a trickle, rather than a flood, of early voters.

But the importance of the vote wasn't able to persuade people to vote early – polling stations were seeing a trickle, rather than a flood, of early voters.
At Westbourne High School, in the Whitehouse Ward, there were just four voters in the first half-hour of voting.
One of them – Judy McAndrew of Bennett Road – turned up bang on the dot of 8am when the polling station opened.
"I try to be first to vote – my family laugh about it and point out there isn't a prize for being first," she said.
"But I think it's important to vote – otherwise you have no right to criticise what the council does."
