A walk to campaign against modern slavery was held in Ipswich on Saturday.
The #WalkForFreedom event was run by campaign group A21 and saw participants, dressed in black, walking single-file with black tape covering their mouths to represent the 27 million slaves who have no voice.
Fran Marcus, 28, who organised the Ipswich event, which was one of 270 around the world, said: “There are more slaves now than at any point in history.
“In the last year, about 50 victims came through the Port of Felixstowe, which is probably more than we think. They mainly come from Europe, and a lot of the time from the Greek islands and Albania.
“It is happening right here on our doorstep and I took part because I don’t want us to be viewed as a generation which didn’t do anything to help them. Their average age is 12 and I could not live with myself if I didn’t do anything.
“About 40 of us took part and it was a positive walk which spread a lot of awareness. A lot of people were taking flyers, which is always hard to do, but people seemed to be taking a good interest.”
