THROUGHOUT the spring and summer visitors and school children have been enjoying better access to Thornham Walks, estate and the Walled Garden.

The area was in desperate need of better access because the Walled Garden provides hortitherapy courses for people with disabilities.

Access was a grassed area that frequently became waterlogged and cars often became stuck.

But new work to resurface the car park facilitating easy wheelchair access has been made. This car park also provides access to Thornham Walks.

Following on from the car park a new surfaced path was constructed along the front of the walled garden and through the car park.

This has now created a complete loop up to the walled garden from the main car park at the Forge Café and back down again.

This path provides all year access for all around the centre of the Thornham Estate.

School groups visiting the Thornham Field Centre now have better access to habitats along the footpath and to the Walled Garden were some courses are run.

Contributors to the project were Awards For All £4,000, Mid Suffolk District Council £4,000, Simon Gibson Charitable Trust £5,000, there were also donations from Lord Henniker and the Thornham Estate.
