NORFOLK police are urging members of the public to be vigilant following incidents where drivers have been flagged down and persuaded to buy fake jewellery.

There have three incidents in the past few days in south Norfolk, Breckland and the Thetford area where vehicles have pulled into lay-bys to offer assistance to members of the public who appear to have broken down.

The suspects then concoct a story, usually saying they need money to get their vehicle fixed and to be able to continue their journey, and then offer jewellery for sale to the unsuspecting Good Samaritan.

People feeling sorry for the person have then handed over cash for very low quality jewels not realising they are falling victim to this elaborate scam.

Anyone coming across this scam should call police on 0845 4564567.
