SUFFOLK County Council has announced the sale and new owner of the Suffolk Waste Disposal Company.

Following negotiations the county council-owned business has been sold to Viridor Waste Management Limited.

The council will receive £8.6 million from the sale of the Suffolk Waste Disposal Company.

Viridor has wide experience of waste management, an excellent environmental record, and the resources necessary to help the county council and districts to develop the recycling and disposal facilities needed in Suffolk.

Viridor Waste Management has a proven track record in Suffolk and is already contracted to the county council to dispose of household waste for the Suffolk Coastal, St Edmundsbury, Forest Heath and Waveney districts until 2012.

As a result of the sale, Viridor will become responsible for operating the waste disposal sites at Foxhall, Lackford and Wangford and the 18 civic amenity sites across the county.

Staff working for Suffolk Waste Disposal Company will become Viridor employees on their existing terms and conditions.
