LIVES were put in danger after arsonists torched a field where a group of adults and children were camping, The Evening Star can reveal today.
Diesel had deliberately been poured in six separate areas of the site, the venue of a joint 50th birthday celebration party planned for Saturday evening.
The partygoers were woken by what they described as a firework display in their back yard.
Joanne Smith, 35, who was camping in the field with her children, said: "I was woken by a series of almighty bangs and hissing noises.
"Tires were blowing up and firing all over the place. We were running around like headless chickens. It was quite spectacular but very frightening."
