CALLING all drivers! We need your help to expose the thousands of hazardous potholes created by the recent big freeze - and get them filled in.

Today the Star launches Spot Your Pot - a campaign aimed at reducing the number of potholes on the county's roads.

Weeks of snow and ice earlier this month have left many roads in a perilous state - and we've decided to do something about it.

We want you to send us details of any potholes you spot on your travels and we'll pass the details on to the local authorities.

Nigel Pickover, editor of the Evening Star, said: “There may be thousands of potholes out there - and if they're not filled you run the risk of fatal accidents happening.

“We realise that councils don't have bottomless pits of money but we feel that this an urgent issue that needs addressing.”

Potholes are formed by water penetrating the asphalt surface of the road through cracks caused by traffic.

When temperatures plunge, the water freezes, expands and causes the surface to rupture.

When the ice melts, it leaves a void below the surface, which caves in under the stress of vehicles and eventually forms a pothole.

If you spot a pothole, give us a call, send us an email or a picture to tell us where the hole is located - if possible with a post code.
