HIS dreams may tell a different story, but an Ipswich man is ready to face a verbal battering from television's ice queen and prove he is not the weakest link.

HIS dreams may tell a different story, but an Ipswich man is ready to face a verbal battering from television's ice queen and prove he is not the weakest link.

Dan Ray is set to come to face to face with Anne Robinson on Monday when he takes to his podium for a recording of hit quiz show, The Weakest Link.

The nerves are kicking in today, but the 28-year-old is confident he will get further in the general knowledge contest than his current dreams predict.

He said: "Up until about a day or two ago I was feeling fine but I've started dreaming about being on the show – or maybe that should be having nightmares seeing as Anne Robinson is in them.

"I never win in my dreams though, and am always getting sent off in the first few rounds. As a result I'm getting apprehensive.

"I have a good general knowledge though and when I sit at home I know the answers. I did quite well in the audition as well.

"It'll just been down to the luck of the draw of the questions. I'm not very good on sport so I'm hoping not to get an obscure question on that."

It was as Dan sat at home watching the show on television that he decided to apply to take part.

"I think it's the same for anyone," the supervisor at Ipswich's branch of Costa Coffee said.

"You watch it at home and scream the answers at the screen when the people in the quiz are saying pass.

"I thought I could do better than that and one day just decided to do it."

That was less than two months ago and after passing an audition in Cambridge, where he was interviewed on camera and took part in mock shows with others auditioning, Dan, who also works part time at the Rose & Crown on Norwich Road, is now preparing to head to London to record the quiz show.

He has been practising the Playstation version of The Weakest Link and testing his knowledge with the show's quiz book.

"I've thought of all different strategies," he said. "I don't want to be too out going or extrovert because it'll single me out.

"Then there's the question of do I want to get all the questions right all the time because people might think I'm too clever and not want to be with me in the last round.

"There's all this to think about."

And Dan is fully prepared to take on Anne Robinson, who is renowned for cutting contestants down a peg or two.

He said: "I've been trying to think of what I'll say. I don't know what she's going to say to me though. If she's nasty to me and I've been awful I'll take the flack. If she's nasty and I don't deserve it I'll stand up for myself."

"She puts across an image and she's really good at it," he added, "but I bet she's a pussy cat deep down. We'll soon find out."
