BRITAIN’S biggest container port was preparing to re-open this morning after a massive effort to clear snow from the quayside and storage parks.

Officials at Felixstowe said it would be a gradual re-opening to haulage traffic.

Portworkers spent all day yesterday clearing snow and ice from operational areas.

“When operations do recommence this is likely to be a staged recovery with export tips being the first phase,” said a port spokesman.

Collections of import boxes were not likely to resume before midday.
