Suffolk Coastal district councillors will this month consider proposals to end weekday wedding ceremonies at its council chambers and committee room at Melton, near Woodbridge.

It is one of a number of options being considered by councillors, who are reviewing how the venues are used as they try to find solutions to their own internal accommodation problems.

Up until now, couples could tie the knot there for a total cost of under £100 during the week.

Councillors are due to consider a report on the issue at their first cabinet meeting, which takes place on Tuesday, December 11.

New weekday bookings for the rooms are now on hold, although four weddings planned for December and any others booked for the new year will go ahead. Saturday weddings are not affected.

The Registrar's Office is based within the council buildings at Melton, and has booked the venues for many years.
