PERMED hair and 80s fashion is taking centre stage in Ipswich after a musical based on hit comedy film The Wedding Singer opened at the Regent Theatre.

And its stars have joined Ipswich mayor Inga Lockington who has named a seat at the venue which was refurbished last summer.

She said: “It is a wonderful theatre with some great shows for all tastes. We're delighted to be here tonight and to sponsor a seat at the theatre.”

Starring in the Wedding Singer are television star Jonathan Wilkes, who became familiar as a host of You've Been Framed, and Natalie Casey, familiar from BBC2's comedy Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

The show has a score that transports the audience back to the 1980s.

It is based on the 1998 romantic comedy which starred Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler - and is due to transfer to the West End after a regional tour.

The show opened on Monday and runs until Saturday.

For more information or to book tickets contact the Regent box office on 01473 433100.

The Wedding Singer is the latest major production to come to the Regent which has been attracting touring musicals to the town over the last few years.

Over the next few months this trend will continue with runs of Aspects of Love, The Witches of Eastwick and Lord of the Dance.
