THERE'S a weird and wonderful world out there.

Hidden among the abundance of websites bringing us up to date news and information on every subject under the sun are an equal number of pages dedicated to the less important things in life.

THERE'S a weird and wonderful world out there.

Hidden among the abundance of websites bringing us up to date news and information on every subject under the sun are an equal number of pages dedicated to the less important things in life.

They may be less vital in making our lives a more fruitful and knowledgeable experience but that shouldn't stop us all taking a little peek at what they have to offer.

Designed for our amusement or simply for a little nostalgic sojourn there is plenty of trivia and the like to provide light relief from the mundane, strenuous and at times stressful chores of everyday life.

Unfortunately, finding the best of what is out there is not the easiest task in the world – believe me I've tried.

The number of evenings I have sat glued to my computer screen with my boys pleading at me to let them have a turn surfing the net or had Mrs T calling up the stairs incessantly that my dinner is on the table are hard to count.

I admit it, I'm an addict and were there an Internet Users Anonymous I would no doubt be first in line ready to proclaim "Hello, my name's Matthew Tacket and I am an internet addict".

But whilst I am simply happy to search the net for hours to discover what it has to offer myself, a colleague of mine has had the foresight to cut out much of the surfing time by taking you and me directly to some of the internet's alternative sites.

Austen Dack – a man I fear has more time on his hands than I do but a man whose grasp on the web is one to admire – is launching Wacky Dacky's Crazy Web World.

He has taken it upon himself to discover the best of the worst, the funniest of the funny and the weirdest of the strange out of the millions of websites at our finger tips the minute we log on.

To kick things off young Austen has steered me in the direction of The Dads Army Appreciation Society.

I took Wacky Dacky up on the suggestion and had a look at www.whispersfromwalmington.com.

Ah it takes me back to the early 1970's when I used to sit and watch Walmington's finest on the telly while Mrs T rustled up some corned beef creation in the kitchen!

Oh I how I remember many a fine evening sipping a bottle of stout watching Captain Mainwaring and Private Pike roaming around the outskirts of Thetford Forest raising a chuckle and a snigger.

As I was looking at the fine web-site which features everything there is to know about the BBC comedy series, a passing Mrs T had a look over my shoulder.

She reminded me of a particular evening back in 1972 when I had been to the pub and she has locked me out of the house.

As my five pints of stout guided me back home I saw Mrs T standing at the bedroom window telling me that I couldn't come in because I was worse for wear and had obviously been drinking rum.

Mrs T's reluctance to let me through the door inspired me to burst into song:

"Who do you think you are kidding Mrs Tacket

If you think I've been on the rum?

'Cause who do you think you are kidding Mrs Tacket

Old Tacket has come home!

Well I couldn't believe it – you can actually download the theme tune on the web-site so I treated Mrs T to a rendition, which made her chuckle once more.

Visit the Evening Star website to find the link to Wacky Dacky's Crazy Web World and have a singalong to my little ditty!

n Don't forget to visit Austen's link each day for something new, amusing and alternative to cast your eye upon. Today Dads Army, tomorrow who knows?

And while Austen has plenty of web pages ready to wow you with he's always open to suggestions.

So if you have any sites or pages you would like to introduce to the world e-mail Austen at austen.dack@ecng.co.uk
