Today will bring heavy rain and winds of up to 55mph on the coast – but when will the wet weather hit Suffolk and north Essex?

Forecasters are predicting a rather soggy Sunday, with spells of persistent rain and fresh temperatures that signal the end of an extraordinary summer.

Adam Dury, forecaster for Weatherquest, said the heavy rain will begin in the afternoon and carry through until 11pm tonight, lightening up in the evening.

Moderate to strong winds are also likely to develop on the coast, with gusts of up to 55mph in some areas. Further inland, wind speeds will be in the region of 35 to 40mph.

Mr Dury said that, while this is unlikely to cause any disruption, people heading out today should be aware of the poor driving conditions.

“It will make a lot of spray on the roads,” he said. “30 to 40mph winds could cause some concern if it catches a lorry the wrong way.”

He added that temperatures will be around 16 or 17C this morning, and drop to 13 or 14C when the rain arrives.

However it is good news for workers looking forward to relaxing on Bank Holiday Monday, with dry weather and mild temperatures of between 16 and 18C on the cards for East Anglia.
