A disqualified driver is facing a likely jail term after he was arrested following a 10-mile night-time police pursuit from Ipswich to Whatfield.

John Cook was captured after he attempted to run away from the stolen car while being chased by officers and a police dog.

The 25-year-old, of no fixed address, admitted dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, and driving while disqualified. The Peugeot 107 Cook had been in was rented from a Stowmarket company on January 21 for a three-day lease period.

However, the vehicle was never returned and was reported missing.

Police spotted the Peugeot in Portman Road, Ipswich, at about 9.50pm on February 20.

A 26-minute pursuit ensued from London Road towards Hadleigh, ending in Whatfield. Eventually Cook drove into a field, before getting out of the vehicle and attempting to run off.

Cook made his first appearance before magistrates on February 22.

Following his guilty pleas he was remanded in custody until his sentencing, to take place at Ipswich Crown Court in the three weeks beginning March 24.
