Architect and television presenter George Clarke has officially opened Jimmy’s Farm’s newly built Hobbit house, the first of a planned Hobbit village.
George Clarke is well-known for Restoration Man and Amazing Spaces, in which he explores unusual homes including sheds, caravans and mobile vehicles.
He said: “I get lots of feedback from kids who have enjoyed Amazing Spaces so something specifically designed for them will be even more exciting. It’s a challenge looking around inside, that tiny doorway is not built for grown-ups.”
The quirky house has been built to appeal to children aged two to five and is equipped with its own table and chairs, miniature fireplace, sewing machine, clock and ornaments.
Farmer and TV presenter, Jimmy Doherty, who owns the farm in Wherstead, said: “I’ve always wanted to build the Hobbit house and I’m hoping this is just the beginning of a Hobbit village. You won’t know if you’re in the Shire or in Suffolk.”
