UNSUNG heroes in Suffolk have been recognised today.

The winners of the Babergh Community Awards have been announced and include many people who have willingly sacrificed many hours of their own time to help others.

Seventeen-year-old pupils, Edwin Bowden-Peters, Holly Gilbert, Sarah Bullen and Jamie McMahon, from the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook are winners thanks to their work for the school's Community Action Team which has raised thousands of pounds for good causes.

Members of Hintlesham Playing Field Workshop Committee were noted for their remarkable achievement of raising £20,000 within one year to secure the ownership of a playing field for the parishes of Chattisham and Hintlesham.

Jonathan Tricker from Elmsett has been praised for brining a musical dimension to village life while Shelia Gibson has been thanked for putting on many events during her 10 years in Holton St Mary.

Other winners of the prestigious awards include David and Celia Cobbold from Belstead, Edna Thompson from Aldham, Roger Taylor from Pinewood, Eileen Damant from Hintlesham, Simon Curl from Sproughton, Dorothy Chapman from Burstall and Colin Hurcombe from Capel St Mary.

The winners will now receive their prizes on March 7 at the Stoke-by-Nayland golf club.
