Dozens of Suffolk primary school pupils put their spelling skills to the test during a competition hosted in East Bergholt.

A spelling bee held at East Bergholt High School on Thursday saw Lawford Lions crowned the winners out of 18 teams taking part.

Coming in joint second place were Halifax Primary School and Bergholt Bumble Bees, made up of year seven East Bergholt High School pupils.

Copdock and Bentley Buzzers and Wild Sproughton Sprouts came third.

Organiser Katie Puls, librarian at the high school, said: “It was an incredible day. The children were absolutely brilliant and did really well - they were so confident and owned the stage.

“It was an absolutely fantastic competition, we’re so happy it was so successful and so many schools got involved. We’ve got a lot of feeder schools - and it was lovely to meet the primary pupils.”
