A WOMAN has died and three firefighters injured in a desperate bid to rescue her.
The tragedy happened at a home in Great Lever, Bolton, at 11.30pm last night.
Firefighters managed to rescue a family of four from the blaze before battling to reach an elderly couple, a woman and a five-year-old girl.
But during the rescue a firefighter and elderly woman were engulfed in flames and the woman later died.
Three firefighters needed hospital treatment, with one suffering 50% burns to his lower body.
Fire and police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
