WITNESSES are being sought today after a young woman was grabbed by a man as she walked home from Felixstowe's nightlife area.

The 24-year-old was accosted in Tomline Road after walking up from the seafront in the early hours of the morning after enjoying a night out.

She was approaching Stanley Road, just off the town centre, when she first noticed the man following her.

She walked along Stanley Road, Orwell Road and then into Tomline Road, where the man suddenly grabbed her from behind.

The woman struggled with the man and managed to wriggle out of his hold and then ran away. She did not get a good description of him.

The incident happened between 12.30am and 1am on Sunday, September 9, but has only just been reported to the police.

Officers are hoping that it will trigger someone's memory – and are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or was in the area at the time to come forward as they may have vital information.

They want to hear from people who were on foot, may have looked out of a window and saw or heard something, or was driving in the area at the time.

"We would like to hear from anyone who was around at that time and saw anything vaguely suspicious or witnessed the incident," said a police spokeswoman.

"They may have seen a man walking behind a young woman, or they may have seen him grab her but perhaps did not think anything of it at the time because it may not have looked serious or appeared that it was an attack, or perhaps they only saw it briefly as they passed by."

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Dc Claire Humphreys at Felixstowe CID on 01473 383300.
