A WOMAN is being held on suspicion of murder after a man's body was found in Felixstowe today.

The suspect's arrest came after a member of the public called Suffolk Police at 10am after discovering the corpse in a flat at Dinsdale Court Undercliff Road West.

Police swooped minutes later to arrest the woman and she is now being held at Ipswich police station where detectives will interview her today.

Officers are treating the incident as a suspicious death but said they could not add any more information at this stage.

Suffolk Police spokesman Simon Stevens said: "We received the call at 10am today after a man's body was found in Felixstowe. I can confirm we have arrested a woman in the vicinity of Undercliff Road West, but I cannot give any details of either the victim or the woman arrested.

"The woman was arrested at a residential address.

"I can add that a post mortem will be carried out at a later date but I can't say when."

Mr Stevens said he was unable to release details of how the man died or whether any weapon had been used.

Throughout the day scenes of crime officers were carrying out forensic tests in Dinsdale Court as officers tried to track down the relative's of the deceased to break the news.

Neighbours in the enormous complex of flats were deeply shocked at the news of the sudden death of the man.

One woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "I have seen him come and go and I have seen him use the shops across the road from us.

"I've never spoken to him though. He has lived there for about two years.

"It's quite shocking to think that something has happened so close to home."

Another resident said she had seen the police arrive this morning, followed later by forensic experts wearing protective overalls and carrying equipment.

She said the man had a woman living with him and they seemed a quiet couple.

The flat the man lived in was on the ground floor of a raised block at Dinsdale Court. Police taped off the area to keep people away from the scene.

Dinsdale Court was built in the 1960s and stands between Undercliff Road West and Bulls Cliff and the people who live are of a variety of ages.
