A WOMAN was taken to hospital today, after the car she was driving overturned and landed on its roof in a field just outside Ipswich.

The accident happened at 7.30am at the junction of Lower Wherstead Road and Redgate Lane and caused rush hour chaos as traffic was diverted away from the scene.

The black Ford Ka appeared to hit a one-metre high grass verge, causing the car to roll over and land 20 metres into a field. No other vehicle was involved.

Three fire crews attended to the car and took half an hour to free the woman from the vehicle.

Police at the scene said that the woman had "a lucky escape", though her husband managed to escape from the car without injury

Traffic queues built up as cars were diverted along Redgate Lane.

By 8.10am, Lower Wherstead Road was re-opened with traffic moving slowly.
