A police spokesman said: "We have had a report that a woman had a brick thrown at her, and it caught her in the head."
An ambulance spokeswoman said the woman, who received head injuries, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds.
The incident happened near Milton Road in Stowmarket, at 5.35pm.
