A WOMAN died and man was seriously injured today in a road accident in Newmarket.The female driver was killed outright when her Volvo car was in collision with a horse transporter on Hamilton Road at the junction of A1304 just before 2 pm.

A WOMAN died and man was seriously injured at an accident blackspot in Newmarket.

The female driver, believed to be in her 50's, was killed outright after her Volvo car was in collision with a horse transporter in Hamilton Road at the junction of A1304 just before 2 pm.

Her male passenger, thought to be in his late 40's, was taken by ambulance to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

Dr Paul Silverston, chairman of Suffolk Accident Rescue Service, who attended, said: "It is a dangerous junction. You expect to see several accidents there over the cause of the year."

Police appealed for people to avoid the area and diversions were in place for several hours.

Witnesses to today's accident are asked to contact Suffolk Police on 01473 – 613500.

Meanwhile fire crews rescued a woman trapped in a vehicle after a crash between a bus and car in Haverhill.

The accident happened just before at 4.30 pm today outside a house in the High Street.
