FIREFIGHTERS worked for nearly two hours today to release a trapped woman from her car following a collision with a lorry in Colchester.

Five chemicals were found in the back of the lorry, meaning crews had to await advice from the scientific adviser about the nature of them before they proceeded to free the woman from the wreckage on the Avenue of Remembrance.

Three appliances from Colchester, one from Clacton, one from Leigh and one from Dovercourt attended the incident, which happened around 12.30pm.

Once it was found the chemicals were a low risk hazard, steady progress was made in getting the woman out of the car and the incident was cleared by 2.15pm.

Essex Air Ambulance then took her to hospital but it is not thought her injuries are life threatening.
