Two drink-drivers have lost their licences after admitting getting behind the wheel when over the legal alcohol limit.

Malcolm Drewery, of Orford Road, Tunstall, near Woodbridge, pleaded guilty to being nearly twice the limit on August 2 when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich.

Prosecutor Colette Harper said the 60-year-old was caught by a police officer while driving a black Volkswagen in Priory Road, Snape.

The court heard members of the public had called police in relation to Drewery following problems at the village hall in Snape.

He was seen to get into a car and drive off.

Drewery was stopped at 3.55pm and breathlysed.

Tests showed he had 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcgs.

The court was told although Drewery had no previous convictions he had received two endorsements on his licence for drink driving 30 years ago.

When asked by District Judge Celia Dawson if he had anything to say, the unemployed Drewery - who represented himself said: “I’m very sorry for what I have done. I have been very, very stupid.”

Drewery was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £120. He must also pay £85 costs and £20 to the victims’ fund.

Bricklayer Lee Richardson was disqualified from driving for 12 months after pleading guilty to drink driving.

The 23-year-old, of Eustace Road, Ipswich, admitted having 40mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath after a police officer had followed his Citroen Saxo from Great Blakenham to Waterford Road in Ipswich at around 1.20am.

Richardson was order to pay fines and costs totalling £437.
