Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s supergran flying in to raise money for a life-saving service.

Plucky pensioner Joan Keeble plunged 11,000ft during a tandem skydive in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

The 83-year-old, who lives in Main Road, made the leap of faith at Ellough airfield near Beccles last month to fulfil a lifetime ambition.

She said: “I had always wanted to do a parachute jump but couldn’t do it years ago because I’ve got arthritis and the doctor wouldn’t sign me as fit to do it.

“But I managed to get round it this time because I was doing a tandem jump.”

Mother-of-four Mrs Keeble said her family and friends thought she was mad when she told them she was doing a charity skydive.

She added: “They initially thought I was slightly nuts and said ‘oh mum’ but now I’ve done it I think they’re really proud of me.

“Because it was something I’d been keen to do I didn’t get too nervous as I was just so excited.”

Mrs Keeble, who has seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, was joined in the jump by her youngest daughter Debra Keeble, 48.

“My daughter said she felt sick all the way through but I thought it was amazing,” Mrs Keeble said.

“We jumped at 11,000ft and my partner pulled the rip cord at about 5,000ft.

“The pressure and the noise as you freefall was just terrific and I’m so glad I’ve done it now.”

The daredevil pair raised a total of 1,227 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance which Mrs Keeble said is a vital service.

“The East Anglian Air Ambulance is a life-saving service which relies on donations and sponsorship so I thought it was a jolly good idea to support them.

“I also thought ‘if you’re going to do a skydive, you might as well make it worthwhile’ - otherwise it’s a bit of a waste.”
