With only 31 days to go until Christmas it is not surprising that festivity is everywhere we look - but when is a good time to put up your Christmas tree and decorate your home?

The tradition to put up a decorated tree in your home originally came from Germany.

It was brought to England in the Georgian period, when King George III was on the throne - his wife Charlotte was German.

It is thought that Charlotte used to decorate their Christmas tree for her family in the 1790s.

Many people think that it was a tradition introduced by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as they made it so popular.

When Christmas trees were first introduced they were not how they are today - they were small and sat on tables.

Norway then made it possible for us to have bigger trees so people then started putting them on their floor and displaying presents underneath.

Fir trees are traditionally used because they are evergreen, which means they are still bright green with lots of leaves even during the winter.

We asked the people of Ipswich when they thought Christmas decorations should be put up.
