Mr Barrett said: “The event was all about recognising achievement and celebrating successes. We’ve had students who have come to us at the start of their course having never touched a camera before and now they are making short films. It’s inspiring.”

The overall student of the year gong went to Alfie Vaughan, 18, from Holbrook, who is targeting a career at Weta Digital – one of the companies behind the Lord of the Rings films.

He said: “It was a massive surprise and it goes to show that the teachers appreciate my work which means a lot to me.”
